Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy Training
$300 for NASW Members, $350 for Non-Members
What is TF-CBT?
Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their caretakers overcome trauma-related difficulties. It is designed to reduce negative emotional and behavioral responses following child sexual abuse and other traumatic events.1 The treatment—based on learning and cognitive theories—addresses distorted beliefs and attributions related to the abuse and provides a supportive environment in which children are encouraged to talk about their traumatic experience. TF-CBT also helps parents who were not abusive to cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop skills that support their children.
Who Should Attend?
TF-CBT training sessions are appropriate for therapists and clinical supervisors with a master's degree or higher in a mental health discipline, experience working with children and families, and knowledge of child sexual abuse dynamics and child protection. Therapists may benefit from sequential exposure to different types of training:
This Training Includes:
1. Participating intensive skills-based training for 2 days
2. Ongoing expert consultation from trainers for 6 months
3. Textbook
4. 12 Hours of CEUS
5. Trainees will be certified in TF-CBT upon completion of this course
*Before attending this course, trainees must have completed the online training at musc.edu/tfcbt and musc.edu/ctg. Please bring certificates to training. The online training also has CEU's available.
